collection

We have FINALLY glaze fired, photographed, catalogued, and built up the courage to list our first ceramic collection for purchase.

We intend to create and release similar collections each season, with the proceeds going toward our offerings and maintaining our PWYC payment so everyone can enjoy the arts!

Even though we are currently able to offer collection items, our classes will be on pause for the time being.

Previously purchased, reserved, and gifted classes and experiences will be honored, but no new courses can be reserved at this time.

As we work to make our community space safe and welcoming for all, we thank you for your support!

Jon offers beginner's music classes during the traditional school year for guitar, ukulele, and mandolin. It's possible that our dog Bumi will sing along with you.

We also hold a monthly jam session at our home base for all ages and stages. Bring your own instruments, snacks, and beverages to join in on the fun!

Rocks, rocks, and more rocks. Jon works with "cool rocks" he finds locally and on travels. Working to polish, cut, bore, or otherwise carve and shape rocks, it's. a fun and patience-building hobby.

This is our all-encompassing title for the other interests we currently take pleasure in learning about and sharing: herbalism, broom making, gardening, beer brewing, tea preparation, foraging, and other various hobbies and efforts. Join us!

We have working-knowledge (or better) of sewing, beading, painting, mending, crocheting, and weaving skills, and are happy to introduce you to them, or enjoy them in a community setting with others on site. Bring your craft group over here.

Our Neighbors are saying:

Our Neighbors are saying:

BAG is an amazing place where community and creativity flourish. Amanda and Jon have created a fun and educational space where, kids, teens, and adults can express themselves freely through many mediums. They are wonderful educators and will give as much or as little instruction as you or the kids would like. Definitely take the time to try a class or just come to be in a safe space where not only will you be accepted, but also celebrated.

Fantastically Fun!

We love BAG! After our family was turned away from another program, BAG wasted no time in adding additional activities to accommodate the need for inclusive spaces for all children in our area. We are so thankful for BAG!

End of life care

In an effort to provide our completely inclusively to our community, Amanda is extending her end-of-life doula practice to our other offerings. These services will also fall under the PWYC platform we provide here at Backyard Arts Garner. No need turned away for this knowledge.

Types of items

Types of items

For a small monthly library membership fee ($3, $2, $1 according to the Green Bottle Scale) your household is welcome to check out 2 of any crafting items at a time.

An “item” is typically a package of necessary materials to explore one craft. For example, if you want to try out a sock loom, you will check out the loom itself, as well as the hook, needle, and instruction manual as one “item.”

Loans are for one month, but you may request additional time unless another library member has placed a hold on that item.

BAG will not charge late fees, but may terminate your library membership after repeated difficulties with loans.

Our library loans out the non-consumables, which tend to be the most expensive part of most crafting endeavors.

If you borrow a sock loom, you will need to purchase your own skein of yarn, because it will hopefully become lots of socks!

We have various looms, leatherwork needles, crochet and knitting equipment, jewelry making/ wire working hand tools, as well as scissors and cutting devices, clamps, brushes, paint palettes, easels, and eye protection. If we have the budget and you need something, we can order it for the library!

We do keep a small scrap stockpile for folks to take from and explore odd crafts or materials on a very small scale.
